Frank and Morris Eckhart of Auburn, Indiana started the Auburn Motor Company in 1903. As their business grew, they acquired more dealerships to stay ahead of the competition, but by the mid-twenties size had caught up with them and they were in need of new leadership. In 1925 E.L. Cord became general manager and set out to save the company. Under Cord the new Auburn became a very different company, emphasizing style and performance. Body styles were changed every few years to keep sales up.
This exceptional Custom Eight Cabriolet was restored by noted marque expert Randy Ema. Ema treated the car to a full concours frame off restoration to his exacting standards. Every nut and bolt was redone, no expense spared and no corners cut as in all of his restorations. The car has travelled just 154 miles since restoration and is ready to compete at any level. This highly restored 1931 Auburn 898-A Cabriolet exhibits the talents of designers Gordon Buehrig and Alan Leamy who inspired some of the most stunning examples offered by Auburn. This car is equpped with its original 268.8cid Lycoming 8-cylinder engine producing 98 h.p., and three-speed synchromesh manual transmission. Recognized as a full classic by the Classic Car Club of America this rare automobile represents an outstanding example 1930's American automotive history!
